Meeting results in plan for installing arms signal crossing at Hartley Lane

In the Feb. 10 Copiah County Board of Supervisors meeting, County Engineer Ron McMaster reported that as a result of a meeting with Mississippi Department of Transportation and Canadian National Railroad officials plans are underway for installation of an arms signal at the Hartley Lane crossing north of Crystal Springs. A number of accidents, some with fatalities, have occurred at the site, and residents of the area have strongly urged a solution to the problem. A survey and purchase of additional right of way will be required before the equipment can be placed in service, and it is anticipated that the process will take about a year.
Sheriff Byron Swilley reported detention center population at 70, of which 15 are females. An error on a department salary was corrected.
Supervisors adjourned for February to meet again March 2 at 9 a.m.
